<p>Actually he was noted as the strongest kage during his reign, so he was stronger than the 3rd Raikage. </p><p>You say just let it be, but just letting it be is basically ignoring what Kishi wrote even though there isn't any evidence against Hiruzen being immensely powerful in his prime. </p><p>EDIT: BTW I hope you do realize we're talking about a version of Hiruzen we have never seen in action right? Obviously in his old age he'd not as powerful as all those monsters. </p>

<p>There is no evidence besides hearsay that he was the most powerful, I bet the Raikage's village thought he was the most powerful shinobi at the time too from what I have seen plus what characters say the third did which was hold off hundreds or thousands of shinobi by himself during three days, I can't see Hiruzen doing that he is too vulnerable he has no defensive abilities from what we have seen only dodging. MAYBE one on one he could pull off a win even though the only jutsu we have seen him use is the reaper which is capable of hurting the third raikage, but none of his other jutsu shown would be able to hurt him if a FRS couldn't penetrate his lightning armor. BUT from what I have seen there is no indication whatsoever that the third hokage could beat the third raikage. I actually think people expect you in your "Prime" to be much better than it would be, it doesn't mean he had 5x the chakra reserves, it only means his body was in better physical condition with possibly 2x chakra reserves, it doesn't change the power of the techniques he has used. And about him sealing the cage in the reaper it was kind of BS they stood there instead of fighting to get away. I love his character but his power is greatly overrated. Kishi imo wanted him to be the main hokage who everyone thought was the most powerful but when Hashirama and the whole Madara battle came in to play he decided to give him the backseat and make everyone else more powerful then the newer generation. </p>

<p>Even if we assume "prime" hiruzen was really powerful, Hashirama would still outclass him due having super chakra pool and endure (that non-stop 24 hours fight that he had with Madara) by extention of being Ashura reincarnation. </p>

<p>Did I say prime Hiruzen's chakra was comparable to Hashirama's? No I did not. And reincarnates of Ashura and Indra may be destined to be very powerful, but that's a process. </p>

<p>The third Hokage by feats, is objectively the weakest hokage in Naruto history. Onoki the Tsizukage was older than him, yet he managed to destroy Madara's susanno clones with his kekkai genkai dust release(and was the only Kage Madara was even slightly worried about), clearly showing that age is not a factor when it comes to power in Naruto. The Third has shown no specialized jutsu, no kekkai genkai, literally nothing. He is objectively weak. After all, Kishimoto did recton him in Shippuden into nothing but fodder after he introduced the other much more powerful hokages. The title "god of shinobi" was retconned and given to Hashirama in Shippuden, basically anything before Shippuden involding the third was retconned. </p>
