OP asked if what happened in this episode would mean Naruto is a jonin during The Last, that's what I disputed. For all we know Kakashi could have had a change of heart and promoted Naruto the day after the last event shown in The Last. Still doesn't mean he was a jonin <i>during</i> The Last. </p>

<p>That being said, it was only said by Kakashi that he would promote him if he would study hard. If he really did it though can't be known without actually showing it as long as we have canon information that state otherwise. So Kakashi promising Naruto is one thing, but we have to see him getting actually promoted to be able to consider the information we have so far being retconned. </p>

<p>Naruto is virtually a god. Rank is pretty much meaningless to him. </p><p>I think Kishimoto said that Naruto being a genin-hokage would be a very naruto-thing to do. If i were Naruto i'd not change rank purely to go into history as a Genin Hokage, pure to make a point. </p>

<p>so Naruto is still genin even after saving the village from nagato's onslaught and than stopping basically the strongest of uchihas ,the chakra progenitor Kaguya and fighting most of the 4th great ninja war on his own?!And they didn't even promote him to chunin! What a way to commemorate a hero! </p>

<p>IKR absolute bs. They should have promoted Naruto to chunin after he convinced Nagato to change his ways and end up reviving Konoha, then Jonin after the 4th war was over.. Sasuke should of became Jonin once he set out to protect Konoha from outside. </p>

<p>What about Gaara? He went from Genin to Kage. </p>

<p>No, Gaara was promoted to Chunin then presumably Jonin, then Kage between part 1 and 2. Since they don't list Jonin promotions as stats in the DB's we can't say otherwise.. Jonin's are also appointed as such. </p>

<p>He definitely wasn't promoted to a Jonin, and the "Chunin promotion age" information on his infobox more than likely refers to when he become Kage (he likely simultaneously become a Chunin when he become a Kage), as there is no reason why he'd suddenly become a Chunin. </p>
