<p>That being said, it was only said by Kakashi that he would promote him if he would study hard. If he really did it though can't be known without actually showing it as long as we have canon information that state otherwise. So Kakashi promising Naruto is one thing, but we have to see him getting actually promoted to be able to consider the information we have so far being retconned. </p>

<p>Naruto saved the world a second time in The Last, Kakashi must be real heartless not to at least promote him then. </p>

<p>Naruto is virtually a god. Rank is pretty much meaningless to him. </p><p>I think Kishimoto said that Naruto being a genin-hokage would be a very naruto-thing to do. If i were Naruto i'd not change rank purely to go into history as a Genin Hokage, pure to make a point. </p>

<p>I'm under the impression he was promoted to Jonin after The Last. That way he could end up becoming Hokage. </p><p>There are no instances of Genin becoming Kage so that makes sense. </p>

<p>IKR absolute bs. They should have promoted Naruto to chunin after he convinced Nagato to change his ways and end up reviving Konoha, then Jonin after the 4th war was over.. Sasuke should of became Jonin once he set out to protect Konoha from outside. </p>

<p>No, Gaara was promoted to Chunin then presumably Jonin, then Kage between part 1 and 2. Since they don't list Jonin promotions as stats in the DB's we can't say otherwise.. Jonin's are also appointed as such. </p>

<p>He definitely wasn't promoted to a Jonin, and the "Chunin promotion age" information on his infobox more than likely refers to when he become Kage (he likely simultaneously become a Chunin when he become a Kage), as there is no reason why he'd suddenly become a Chunin. </p>

<p>To be clear, it's not really a rank, it seems more of a role designation to me. It requires certain skills -leadership skills and risk assessments- and when it comes to that, there's simply no way Naruto - a guy who charges in first and makes it up as he goes along- fits the Chunin bill. </p><p>So again it's not really a military rank. </p>
