Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody said Itachi was going easy on him. What we said was he wasn't exactly trying to kill him.

The point is that he nevertheless had to push sasuke close to death to even get the results he wanted. This includes nearly killing him with Amaterasu. With Zetsu on watch, it's not like he could go easy on Sasuke with his techniques. Like i said, he didn't follow through his opportunities, but the techniques he used were with the intent to kill, or else he wouldn't be able to push Sasuke to the edge without gathering attention from Zetsu. (I find it highly unlikely that Obito would want Itachi to die, as he still needed to retrieve a few dangerous Jinchuriki).

I guess it's similar to the fight against Kabuto, where they didn't want to kill him yet had to fight with the intent to kill to even pressure the guy.

Zetsu said that the Sharigan is still a weapon and Itachi seemed genuinely surprised Sasuke could even break out. Sasuke has copied moves simply by recalling how they worked (IE Lion's barrage). He had Sharingan when he was being Tsukuyome'd. If anyone had the papers to break it, it would be Sasuke.

As i said before, it's still genjutsu, it can still be broken. Either time dilation was in effect (in that case, Sasuke would have 3 days to break it in a fraction of a second) or Sasuke prevented it from taking hold. (We know Genjutsu can be resisted, so why not the time and space manipulation of Tsukuyome?).

And even so, Itachi already made the claim that someone with the Sharingan of the same bloodline could break it, making Sasuke's release from the genjutsu even less impressive.

I agree.
