<p>Finally an interesting topic. Most of these forum topics are stupid or toxic. People are more interested discussing which character's got the bigger dick than an aspect of the series such as chakra. </p><p>Now, what we know: </p>

• the Earth's God Tree got nurtured by blood of those slain in battle, this comes from 4th Databook.
• the anime filler stated the God Tree was draining Earth of its nature energy, slowly killing everything in its vicinity.
• the canon has not provided 100% clear answer about where the God Trees come from, but in the anime filler, we saw something pretty much fall from the sky on Earth, from which the tree then began to grow. But we have strong hints that the Otsutsuki Clan is pretty much responsible for the God Trees, since Momoshiki could even make new ones casually.

<p>So this suggests, that the God Trees are pretty much parasitic organisms made by the Otsutsuki Clan, possibly thrown at planets with life on them, in order for the God Trees to drain the planets and their inhabitants in order to produce chakra fruits, which the Otsutsuki would then later come to harvest. </p><p>So pretty much canon says the trees feed on life to grow and produce chakra fruits, with anime stating that they drain natural energy, the latter can still be true, but the filler should not be taken at face value. </p><p>But the canon kind of supports this, since we saw 2 barren worlds harvested by Momoshiki. So my theory is, that the blood of living organisms nurtures the God Trees, while in the meantime, the God Trees slowly drain surrounding natural energy to kill all life on the planets, probably so the Otsutsuki can later safely come to collect the fruits, without having to engage in battles with still living civilizations. </p>

i heard that before chakra was spread natural energy or senjutsu chakra was already a thing on Earth before the clan invaded. I found this really interesting because this could possibly be important in the future.

<p>Senjutsu chakra can't exist without chakra, so no. And natural energy is everywhere, not just on Earth, it's literally the energy from the 'aether' something like the Arcane in the Warcraft universe if that rings any bell. </p>

<p>It's interesting to think of the Divine Tree as an invasive species, it'd make for a fascinating subplot (though I wonder if it could go anywhere). </p><p>That aside, senjutsu chakra couldn't exist without chakra (as the term itself implies), but senjutsu itself could, surely? I mean, that's basically how Naruto mastered sennin mode--independent of chakra usage, right? </p><p>An AU where the Divine Tree never took root and maybe the Shinobi World sourced it's power directly from nature energy might make for a dope stand-alone story. Though I wonder if they'd ever have become shinobi then. </p><p>Or (in the canon) normal humans that can't mold chakra seeking out and learning the use of nature energy--that could move in some interesting directions. </p>

<p>I think Senjutsu is just the art of using senjutsu chakra. <p>Yes, though we've been told various accounts of the nature of chakra, which could or could not be contradictory. I think that the tree fed on physical, spiritual and nature energy to create it's own chakra. Physical energy from the blood of the fallen, spiritual energy from the spirits of the fallen and nature energy from the surroundings. Spirits appear to have infinite chakra, implying that they are also a source of that power. </p><p>In other words, chakra is the power of life (blood) and the afterlife (souls), hence the whole bhuddist reincarnation thing. </p>

<p>@Kill, same thing, natural energy is the energy of the sun, nature etc. pretty much it seems to be just that, energy, taken from outside source. </p>

<p>Shouldn't the Divine Tree from Naruto's world be over at least 2 millennium? I remember them stating it was forbidden to consume the Fruit and that would only bloom once every 1000 years. </p>
