I mean, in the anime the summoning failedto happen, and even if we think it's because Hiruzen "stopped" it with a bunch of Shuriken, the summoning maybe just failed because Minato's soul was sealed away already. Hiruzen might have knowed about this, and even if his internal dialogue seems a bit weird, maybe he tried to let Orochimaru think it was him that made the summoning "fail" to continue preserving secrets about the Death Reaper Sealing Technique without Orochimaru noticing (making sense since Hiruzen use it later to seal away the First and Second)

Yeah minato's failed because he was already sealed away when he sacrificed himself until orichimaru magically had this reverse sealing jutsu that revived him and the first 2 ages along with hiruzen.

Tbh though im not sure orichimaru needed minato the senju brothers are already strong af

I recall that Edo Tensei doesn't bring you back at full strength and Orochimaru's Edo Tensei wasn't as perfected as Kabuto's.
