This arc starts with Naruto returning to the Leaf Village after a 3-year time skip after training with Jiraiya. Everyone has grown stronger and got a bit taller. Naruto is nostalgic and shocked to see his classmates have advanced in their ranks as shinobi. He learns Gaara has become the Kazekage.
In a bell training session, Sakura and Naruto team up to take the bell from Kakashi, reminiscent of their past. Both Naruto and Kakashi are surprised by Sakura's training progress.
The arc's main plot involves members of Akatsuki, Deidara and Sasori, heading to the Hidden Sand to capture Gaara, who is the jinchuriki of the One-Tail Shukaku. Gaara fights Deidara but loses and gets kidnapped to have his bijuu extracted leading to death
Key Moments in the Arc
- Gaara vs Deidara: Gaara fights Deidara while simultaneously protecting his village but is ultimately defeated
- Kankuro vs Sasori: Kankuro battles Sasori but gets poisoned.
- *Sakura saves Kankuro*: Sakura makes an antidote to save Kankuro from Sasori's poison. Showcasing her phenomenal medical skills
- *Team 7 sent on the mission*: Team 7 (Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi) are sent on a mission to rescue Gaara.

Team Guy vs Kisame
- *Chiyo and Sakura vs Sasori*: Chiyo and Sakura battle Sasori.
- *Kakashi and Naruto vs Deidara*: Kakashi and Naruto face Deidara. We learn Kakashi has the Mangekyo Sharingan.
- *Chiyo rescues Gaara*: Chiyo sacrifices her life to rescue Gaara.
This arc is significant in Naruto Shippuden, showcasing the growth of characters like Naruto, Sakura, and Gaara, and the dangers posed by the Akatsuki organization.
