The Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown Arc, also known as the Power Arc, is a captivating and highly detailed filler arc in the Naruto Shippuden anime, spanning episodes 284 to 295.1 Unlike many filler arcs, it is praised for its high production quality and its strategic placement just before the main war. It serves as a powerful prelude, not just with explosive battles, but by deepening the lore of Edo Tensei and setting a grim tone for the coming conflict.
Storyline
The arc's narrative revolves around Kabuto Yakushi, who is perfecting his Edo Tensei jutsu to create an unstoppable army for Madara Uchiha (and his own secret agenda). He has already captured Yamato to enhance his White Zetsu army with Wood Style, but he seeks an even greater power to make his resurrected shinobi truly invulnerable.
His search leads him to a legendary, floating island known as Shimagame Island, rumored to hold a powerful secret. This is, coincidentally, the same island where Naruto Uzumaki and Killer B are undergoing their final, crucial training to master their Jinchuriki powers.
At the same time, a small Leaf Village squad, including Sakura Haruno, Sai, and Rock Lee, is dispatched on an investigation mission. They are tracking the disappearance of a medical team and the strange chakra signals coming from the island. They soon find themselves in a deadly battle against a squadron of Edo Tensei shinobi, all of whom seem to be powered by an unknown force.
The mystery deepens when they encounter a young girl named Dokku, who is at the heart of the "Power." They quickly discover that the "Power" is not a physical energy source, but a living, biological entity known as the Sora. The Sora has the unique and terrifying ability to absorb and amplify chakra, turning any jutsu it touches into something exponentially more powerful. Kabuto's plan is to not only resurrect an army of legendary ninja but to infuse them with the Sora's amplified chakra, making them nigh-invincible.
The main plot culminates in a desperate race against time. The Leaf shinobi must not only defeat Kabuto's Edo Tensei army but also prevent him from gaining full control of the Sora. Their combined efforts, as well as the unique abilities of Naruto and Killer B (who remain blissfully unaware of the chaos happening around them), are key to foiling Kabuto's sinister plan.
New Characters and Their Roles
Dokku: An enigmatic young girl with a mysterious connection to the "Power." Her role is central to the arc's mystery, as she acts as a living conduit for the Sora's energy.
The Sora: This sentient, biological entity is the source of the arc's title. It is a living "Power" that absorbs and amplifies chakra, turning the Edo Tensei army into a far more formidable threat.
Jinin Akebino: One of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.2 Resurrected by Kabuto, he wields the terrifying Kabutowari (Helmet Splitter) and engages in a thrilling battle with Kakashi Hatake.
Pakura: A ninja from the Sand Village with the Scorch Release kekkei genkai.3 She is a tragic figure, resurrected by Edo Tensei to be used as a weapon against her former home. Her backstory and emotional battles add depth to the arc.
Ameyuri Ringo: Another of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, she wields the lightning blades Kiba. Her fight with Rock Lee and Sai highlights their growth and teamwork.

Sakura, Sai, and Rock Lee vs. Dokku's "Power" clones: The early battles are a series of strategic confrontations. The Leaf shinobi must figure out the nature of their opponents while fighting for their lives. These fights are crucial for showcasing the team's improved teamwork and individual growth.
Kakashi vs. Jinin Akebino: This high-stakes battle shows Kakashi's ingenuity and tactical brilliance against a powerful, brute-force opponent. Kakashi must use his Sharingan and wits to counter Jinin's devastating sword.
