Ever since it was 'revealed' that Magnet Release was Earth and Wind, I thought it was odd. Logically speaking, it doesn't really make sense. All the elemental kekkei genkai except this one seem to have some real world scientific logic. Here's a list just to clarify
- Ice Release: When you have very cold air that meets water, it creates ice; thus, wind/water.
- Lava Release: Heating up rock to an extreme degree such as at the Earths core creates a molten sludge, thus, lava.
- Wood Release: Water and earth are essential in growing plants; it's hard to do it without either, thus, you get wood.
- Storm: Storm clouds need water to form, and lightning is produced from storm clouds, thus this combination makes sense.
- Scorch Release: When you have intense heat in the air it can create cinders, which when fanned by wind can create a scorching blaze, thus this makes sense too.
- Boil Release: When water is heated up it creates steam, which is what most of boil release techniques are made of.
- Explosion Release: Of all the elemental Kekkei Genkai, this is the one I think has the most tenuous logical connection, and that's because the only thing I can think of is that by combining earth into lightning, an explosive quality is released, due to the fact that when lightning strikes the ground it can create a very small blast on the ground.
Now that we have those examples, here's why I think that wind and lightning might be the actual combination. There are actually two reasons:
First, because the only reason that a it was concluded that earth and wind was the combination that creates magnet release is process of elimination. As far as we know, Rasa can use Water, Wind, and Earth Release. Since Wind/Water make Ice, and Water/Earth makes Wood. This led to the conclusion that the only possible combination left was Wind/Earth. I want to clarify, this isn't bad logic. The problem I have is that previously people have been able to use elements that we didn't know they had, so it is possible Rasa has another we just don't know about.
The second reason I think it might be lightning and wind, is that most magnetic forces require a form of electric current to produce it, save for some particles that are inherently magnetic. To me, that almost guarantee's lightning HAS to be part of the combination. Then you add in wind, which would make it easy to shape and manipulate the magnetized particles. I think there are two things that lend a bit of strength to that theory; one, Gaara and other Magnet Release users usually carry around supplies of their medium that have been charged with their chakra before hand. Gaara can manipulate particles of sand from the surrounding landscape, but his own supply is much easier for him to use and it takes time for him to convert the particles in the earth to sand. To me this implies that it's the chakra he pours into it that makes it magnetic, not the sand itself. The other thing I think lends strength to this theory is that previous to the Wind/Earth thing being discovered, it was believed Wind/Lightning would be the combination. I think that's because it was the most logical.
So, what do you think? I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this, and I'd welcome any alternate theories as to why Wind and Earth might be more logical.
I'd request that anyone that uses this thread try to respect other people's theories, don't call them stupid or anything, and in general just try and keep things civil.
