First off, I apologize for my mistake on when exactly the movie takes place. As Hisana said, the two years had to do with release date.

Second, I will respond to the above. All we know about the movie is that it deals with a story not covered in the manga, presumably after the conclusion. However, taking place after the end of the manga does not make something canon. Just ask Dragon Ball GT about that one. It is worth noting that of the movies that have been put out thus far, none of the others have been canon. Rather, they were examples of a concept called 'microcontinuity' wherein the movie in question occupied an alternate timeline in which the events of the movie happened and everything else did not (i.e. in Blood Prison, Naruto went to the Blood Prison after the Pain fight instead of going to the Kage summit.) Without a direct statement from Kishimoto himself, it is best to consider The Last as another microcontinuity, with a branch point as yet unknown. Also, I do not like the implications carried by 'idiot mistake,' especially since I am following the logical path of reasoning here.
