Naruto so far isn't dead. He is alive. Kawaki saying that he shall send Boruto to meet Naruto doesn't mean that Naruto is dead. Even if it could mean that Naruto is dead then how?

The problem is that we don't know for sure. But Kawaki's words imply on that. He said he'll send Boruto to the same place as the Seventh, and then continued the fight against Boruto, which most likely means that Naruto is really no longer alive, otherwise Kawaki's threat just doesn't make sense. Yeah, it's hard to believe that someone managed to take down Naruto, technically the strongest Hokage ever, but it's still unknown what really happened, although such a thing is possible anyway - Hashirama was reputed as a "God of Shinobi" during his livetime and was considered the strongest shinobi alive, but still somehow died and surely not the natural way.

The difference is that Hashirama death is clearly a kishimoto plot hole.He planned Hashirama to be a random shinobi at first that somehow died to random shinobies in a random battle, the circunstance and how exactly he has died was never explained.
Kishimoto himself admitted he was just making things up as the story went on.
