@Shashi Darling Itachi in the end is a good guy as he committed morally reprehensible acts for the greater good of the entire village. The uchiha clan went down as a good clan in the end with only Itachi taking the blame. The difference between you and Itachi is the fact that you attempted to take the moral high ground in the scenario whilst suggesting no better alternative whereas Itachi chose the best course of action with the given options.
Since he is Jiraiyas clone it recognised his chakra and since it isn't filtered down to who the person is he slipped into it. This is mainly because 100s of people are expected to enter and leave the village so extensive surveillance would be unnecessary
