I was wondering what we got so far on the land of lightning lore and by extent Kumogakure. Here is what I've collected so far, please feel free to add more:
· Long ago, the Sage of Six Paths used 5 golden treasures and those weapon are kept by Kumogakure, wielded most famously by Kinkaku and Ginkaku who are said to be descendants of the Rikudo Sennin, hinting the reason why those weapons are with Kumogakure
· During the Warring States period, the Chinoike was a powerful clan of dojutsu users, and the lightning daimyo married a woman from this clan. The ex-wife of the daimyo then framed the Chinoike clan to be responsible of the daimyo's murder at the time, leading the Chinoike clan to be exiled in the land of hot waters
· The First Raikage founded Kumo and his bodyguard would then become the second Raikage. According to the anime, it was the second hidden village founded.
· A-B combo is a tradition stemming since the first Raikage, possibly hinting that every Raikage, at least before Darui, are related to each other and the reason why they are many surnammed with letters. Should maybe not be considered canon, but Blue B have an actual name in the anime, hinting that the letter naming convention is not their actual name and is linked to the grade. A is the ruler, B is the right-hand man, C is the bodyguard, etc.
· Soon after the creation of Kumogakure, the first raikage had given land to the Yotsuki clan for their loyalty. This breaks down the common fanon misconception I see online that the Yotsuki clan is the clan of the Raikage, since it would be odd for the first raikage to give land to his own people, for their loyalty of the village he founded himself.
· Before the capture of the tailed beast, Kumo sent the gold and silver brothers to try and capture the nine tail themselves, but failed. When the brothers escaped from the stomach of the beast, they gain pseudo jinchuriki powers when they ate the flesh of the nine tail. A shinobi in Kumo later tried to reiterate the achievement by eating the flesh of the eight tail, but died of sickness because of that.
· Karyu in the novels states that kekkei genkai users like him are mistreated and used as weapons in the land of lightning, and that the people of Kumo are much more caring with their kekkei genkai users, maybe shown with the pride they take on shinobi like Toroi when he is reincarnated (opposed to Haku who is said to have a cursed kekkei genkai). This also implies kekkei genkai users are more seen as subservants or even slaves by the land of lightning, rather than dangerous people that are actively chased down or supervised like in the land of water and Kirigakure.
· Jinchuriki of the village and their tailed beast are well-known in the history of the village to be respected and feared all the same, seeing how people would react to Killer B in his childhood. They would take a very hard and detestable training on the turtle island until they have control over they tailed beast, but at least the eight tail is known to have had many rampages that killed many shinobi, explaining the fear around jinchuriki.
· The first shinobi war begins, Kumo and Konoha are on opposing sides, but the Gold and Silver Brothers from Kumi betrayed their village and tried to make a coup d'etat by bringing down the second Hokage and second Raikage. Not much else is known and the details around the death of the raikage and hokage.
· In the anime, despite of being of unknow origin, it is showed in a flashback that Kumogakure faced a Crystal Release kekkei genkai user when Tsunade explained it
· Not much is known of Kumo during the second shinobi world war, but Kumo is known to not have respected the armistice between the countries that retrained military improvement during the years, gaining a step ahead over the others hidden villages.
· Kumo then gained a shameful reputation because of their many attempts to steal secrets of other hidden villages, such as kekkei genkai or hiden. One such attempt was when they kidnapped Kushina Uzumaki, only for them to be foiled by a young Minato Namikaze.
· During the third shinobi war, Konoha and Kumo are known to have fought, with the future fourth Raikage and fourth Hokage on each frontline. The third Raikage would then die facing alone against 10 000 for three days non-stop.
· At some point, the land of earth tried to annex the neighboring land of flowers, but the land of lightning saved them and are since allies that protect them from any other invasion attempt.
· Another attempt to steal a kekkei genkai known as the Hyuga Affair, resulting in the death of branch member of the clan Hizashi Hyuga, to protect their secrets when the head ninja tried to kidnap a young Hinata Hyuga and tried to deny the claim that Kumo planed to betray Konoha.
· Events for the naruto manga, we known them, fourth shinobi war.
· End of war, shinobi union is formed and Kumogakure joined it under the fourth Raikage.
· Events of the movie naruto the last two years after the fourth shinobi war. Darui would the become the fifth Raikage some time after and relations with the other big hidden villages are peaceful.
· Events of Boruto the movie (or in short early boruto manga), the Otsutsuki attack
· Shortly after, because the land of earth tried again to annex the land of flowers, this almost resulted in a fifth shinobi war because the land of lightning have to protect them. This was avoided with diplomacy.
· Events of Boruto Naruto Next generation (including what happen only in the anime)
That's all I could resume and I tried to give them in chronological order :) Feels like we know things about Kumogakure but not so many things too, and even less things about the land of lightning. It was still nice doing that !
