Hello everyone, I'm here to let you all know that Special:Forum is being retired, with its content being migrated to Discussions in preparation for this Wiki's move to the Unified Community Platform. Discussions has new upgrades to accommodate Forum users when you move to Discussions, including an optional Condensed view that is more reminiscent of Forum as it exists today, displaying Discussions categories more prominently, usually one-at-a-time like Boards do now. This upgrade, including more upgrades to come, should hopefully allow you to use Discussions in largely the same way as you use Forum today.

That said, the change is not going to be 1:1. For example, while Discussions has a wide array of formatting options, it does not support wikitext. When the migration is happening, Forum will become read-only & thread content will come over nearly identically to the way it currently outputs in Forum (unless they're particularly complex), but new threads made in Discussions will not have the same capabilities as wikitext. Attempting to edit the migrated threads will break their formatting for this reason.

To make sure you can contribute somewhere at all times, Discussions will turn on when the migration process begins/Forum locks: just keep in mind that a Fandom account is required to post in Discussions, as you aren't able to contribute anonymously. As you might know, the forums will be no more soon (if everything is on schedule).

I've made a discord channel to accommodate the need to have important discussions regarding the wiki, since there's no good way to categorize in the upcoming Discussions feature.

I've also added channels for other discussions for any other user who'd like to join.

I also have roles for the sysops and bureaucrats who decide to join and will add them as soon as the verify on my talkpage their discord ID.

Highly recommended for staff to join, since I think this will be the main way staff communicates to discuss anything about the wiki once Forum (and possibly Talkpages) disappear.

As you may or may not be aware, Wiki Managers are contractors from Fandom tasked with looking after & helping specific Wikis. A blog was released from a Fandom Staff Member. As far as I can tell, the eventual retirement of Forums and the rise of Discussions will happen sometime in April.

I have no idea how our Forum-heavy community will translate to a Discussions based one. Personally, the few times I've tried the feature, it was harder to make in depth discussions or find actual discussions you wanted to partake in.

So I guess it's a good thing that Forum activity has died down quite a bit.

Also I'm not sure I'm understanding the blog correctly, but it looks like Profile Talkpages are outdated too, so those may be removed at some point.

Hello all! I'm Jamie from FANDOM's Community Development team! This conversation starting on Dantman's talk page and now I'm taking it here. We wanted to know if this community would be interested in turning on the Discussions feature for this community, and possibly migrating the Threaded Forums across as well.

In case you are unaware of the feature, Discussions was introduced last year to help communities engage with users and fans. It lives in its own space on the wiki and allows users to interact with other members of the community. It is also mobile friendly and gives mobile users a chance to contribute and engage with the community, and possibly turn them into wiki editors as well. Discussions also links with our FANDOM Apps, which this community has and it allows app users to easily take part in Discussions as well. You can read more about Discussions here.

For more information on migrating forums to Discussions, you can check out this blog over on Community Central that explains everything in detail.

If you have some concerns, Discussions, and Forums can exist side-by-side in case you do not want to migrate just yet. However, eventually all Forums will be migrated over to Discussions and Forums will be sunsetted as a feature, so getting ahead of the curve is never a bad idea.

To be clear, we do not need to migrate now. We are very happy to turn on discussions here and in the app and have them live side-by-side with forums.

I'm sure you're aware of FANDOM's editorial site, Fandom.com and our coverage of gaming and entertainment news. One of the features of the site is that we curate news from other sites with the intention of providing a full picture of what's happening in the world of gaming and entertainment.

To that end, we're creating a new volunteer group at FANDOM called "Volunteer Curators". What we're looking for are subject matter experts that have deep knowledge of news and features about their favorite game, movie or TV show. If you spend a bunch of time on the anime subreddit or follow anime news obsessively, we want to talk to you!

We're looking for people like you to help us round out our anime coverage - everything from killer reddit posts to game news to awesome new wiki articles.

On August 17th, 2017, we upgraded our Semantic MediaWiki install to version 2.4.6. This is a maintenance release of the 2.4.x branch which means it does not include any breaking changes or major differences. You can find a complete list of changes included in this update here.. Please report any issues you encounter on this thread or via the official bug report form.

Additionally, from August 22nd onwards, the Special:SMWAdmin page will be fixed so it will be visible to administrators again.

As you might have already noticed, smw will be updated on Thursday. It is expected to solve the "red links problem" and not break anything. If you encounter any bugs, use this thread to report/discuss them

In case you missed it, Wikia is going to be "Fandom powered by Wikia" starting October 4th. Wikia, Inc will continue to be the parent company, but the website itself will be known as Fandom.

According to wikia, having one name—Fandom—that best reflects the broad experience rather than just part of it ties the whole site together under one powerful brand and it best represents who we are: a comprehensive entertainment destination for fans to celebrate what they love.

Not a discussion post, but just an announcement. Users are free to discuss this upcoming change below if they so wish, but complaining and trying to "avoid" the change is pointless.

Basically, the forums that we're all used to here are soon (as in, several months away) going to be getting merged with something called "Discussions", which is just a mobile app version of forums. You can see some examples of this at TES Wiki and the Nukapedia.

The feature has been in some beta testing for a while now and Staff are pressing on to replace Special:Forum with the /d feature.

As this wiki makes heavy use of the forums, I thought I'd let you all know about this so you can start preparing for the eventual merge, which is quite likely to result in needing many more moderators (in the two beta test cases I linked, the respective wiki's needed to appoint many discussions moderators due to the huge amount of postings happening through it). As I understand it, nothing will be lost, but Wikia will post up more information in time over on Community Central, so keep an eye there for when more information comes out about the move from forums to discussions.

EDIT: Because of this change, it is quite likely that many of our various scripts for the forums will not work any more and it may be quite possible that they will never work again, due to /d being focused primarily for mobile users where JS doesn't really work very well. Whether replacements will be made is debatable, since they're unlikely to be functional.
