The Ame Orphans were one of the many groups of orphans caused by one of Amegakure's wars. Forced to fend for themselves these three would eventually encounter the Sannin. Jiraiya gave them food and agreed to train them in ninjutsu until the point where they could defend themselves. The three children would soon show great talent and proficiency in their training. After three years training they were able to defeat one of Jiraiya's shadow clones. At this point, having grown satisfied with their skill, Jiraiya returned to Konoha.

The Ame Orphans as adults

After Jiraiya's departure from Amegakure, the three quickly gained a reputation to the point that news of their deeds even reached Konoha. Any group that opposed them would "wind up dead". Their group has recruited new members, and with Yahiko as the leader, they planned to bring peace to the village.

After Yahiko's death, Nagato took over and the group's goal of bringing peace continued. As time grew, more and more members died, eventually leaving only Nagato and Konan. Yahiko's corpse was incorporated into Nagato's Six Paths of Pain, and became his most powerful and cherished one of the six, the Deva Path.

Battle with Hanzō

Later the Ame Orphans gained quite a reputation. This made Hanzō nervous that Yahiko might usurp his rule. Hanzō teamed up with Danzō Shimura in order to defeat the three of them, taking Konan as hostage and ordering Nagato to kill Yahiko. Not being able to do it, Yahiko jumped on the kunai Nagato was holding, resulting in his death. Hanzō took advantage of the situation ordering Danzō's men and his men to kill Nagato. Nagato easily deflected their attacks with Shinra Tensei. He then tried to attack Hanzō, managing to rescue Konan at the cost of his legs which were burnt by Hanzō's explosive fire tags. Nagato resorted to the Summoning: Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to kill all of Hanzō's and Danzō's men. However, Hanzō had managed to escape the attack. The side effect of the technique impaled several chakra rods on his back, which he would later use to his advantage while controlling the Six Paths of Pain

Jiraiya later heard that they had all died, though this was only true of Yahiko. After the invasion of Pain, Konan became the last surviving member of the Ame Orphans, and succeeded Nagato as village leader in Amegakure.
