Well he deffinatly has a legacy, he was probably the strongest out of Jiriya and Tsunade, However the methods he used were unquestionably evil, the only reason he gets a reprive from me is that he saved Tsunade, reanimated the hokage and in turn helped Sauske to stop Madara, He fufilled his potential but he went about doing it the wrong way, IMO his role in the story is over with, and i think he will continue to aid Sauske in any way possible after the war.
Interesting topic. I think Sasuke is Orochimaru's legacy. Perhaps he has given up on the idea of getting his body and hopes that Sasuke will be the one to uncover the secrets of chakra instead of himself.
Maybe I'm just naive tho, but it would appear that even tho Orochimaru was originally interested only in Sasuke's body, his mind has grown up on him as well as of late.
Interesting idea on Sasuke being Orochimaru legacy. I can see it that way considering he taught him just to use him but now he's interested in his actual growth. To answer my own question I don't think his role in the story is done yet. The pairing of him Kabuto, Sasuke, on equal footing per se could make for interesting story.
I think he realized that Sasuke is much stronger than himself, there's no way he will get his body, so instead of attempting something infeasible, he has allowed Sasuke's personal growth instead.
Basically, he took a backseat, having decided that witnessing Sasuke's power (rather than having it) is better than nothing.
Or perhaps he knows Sasuke's true intentions as well and whatever they are, they may be beneficial to Orochimaru's own agenda. We will see.
Just about everything bad that has happened to everyone, Orochimaru can be found in it somewhere.
If the entirety of Taka survives the war, they will be his legacy. As is Yamato, anyone who Anko trains, quite possibly the further development of the cursed seals.
Orochimaru clearly admits both his and Kabuto's vision of the world were flawed and shows interest in Sasuke's way of thinking, which totally differs from his own even though they were master and student. By stating this he renounces his former lifestyle, realizing that it can't bring him what he wants to, and decides to support Sasuke while witnessing his inner development.
Interesting answers being given here. Orochimaru seems to be the person on the sideline who can easily input himself back into the importance of the story. I think it's somewhere in between where he admits his faults from before and wanting to see what Sasuke has planned. Which is kinda creepy , what could Sasuke have planned that has Orochimaru not even thinking twice about following him?
