The moment you balance the chakra to become even, it would technically become a Shadow Clone. See Raiton Kage Bunshin no Jutsu for instance.
Shadow clones are not always worth it. It's a B-rank technique (rank reflect difficulty of performing a jutsu), which means it's fairly difficult to learn/perform, and the user may be better off keeping the bulk of their chakra in their own body instead of distributing it evenly among shadow clones.

Wood clones seem stronger in most regards. Telepathic link, sturdier. I don't really see the downside to them.
The downside to wood clones is the same downside non-shadow clones have:
