Depending on how you interpret some of the things in Naruto, it's very likely that Sharingan gives literal photographic memory. When receiving Itachi's eyes Sasuke makes a mention about seeing all that he saw.
I was super excited about that statement when I saw the first translation of it, as I thought it may be a way for Sasuke to inherit some techniques from Itachi's repertoire.
Turned out it was more about him burning the images of terrible things that will happen from that point on into Itachi's eyes, or somethin'. :(
It would explain why the Uchiha are so prone to hatred. I mean, no matter how painful something was, it's impact will eventually fade to manageable levels. But for an Uchiha, every memory is as painful (or joyous) as the first time they experienced it.
That would explain a lot. Interesting theory.
