Earth Release (Doton, 土遁, English TV: Earth Style) techniques are jutsu that use the surrounding ground, or earth for offensive and defensive purposes. The earth element has the ability to change the hardness and composition of all objects. A person who masters this element can cause an object to be as solid as metal or soft as clay in his jutsu.
The Snake hand seal is commonly used for Earth jutsus and Wood Release jutsu. Earth Release techniques are probably one of the easist jutsus as long as there is land around. The most basic technique is Earth Release: Inner Decapitation Technique, a Genin level jutsu. Earth element is strong against water but weak against lightning.
