Wiki will soon be upgrading all of wiki to MediaWiki 1.14. As such there is a bit of a todo list in consideration of the new features being added:

  • (sysops) Hunt through the list of all the images tagged with {{Poor filename}}. MediaWiki 1.14 finally introduces the ability to move (ie: rename) a file without resorting to re-uploading. This feature though is only made available to sysops.
  • (me) Fix MediaWiki:Pagetitle. Awhile ago Wikia put parserfunctions into that message for a conditional on the mainpage. MW introduced MediaWiki:Pagetitle-view-mainpage which serves that purpose. So we should remove the parserfunctions when upgraded.
  • use |link= instead of ImageMap. The Image: tag now has a |link= parameter to it. So in all of the titleicons and whatnot where we use an imagemap we can replace those with a normal image tag using a link.

So when moving an image, what is preferable in regards to the original file name? Delete it? Redirect it to the new name? Redirect it and protect it to make sure it can't be used again? ~SnapperTo 18:47, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Redirects are created automatically unless you uncheck the checkbox. Best to let mw create the redirect. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Apr 22, 2009 @ 20:22 (UTC)
But would a redirect prevent a new file from being uploaded to the same name? ~SnapperTo 03:08, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't know that specifically. It should at the very least shove one of those messages in the user's face about an image already existing I think. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Apr 23, 2009 @ 16:20 (UTC)

Traffic

Heh, Fun fact. Apparently the Narutopedia on average gets the 10th most global visiting people out of all wiki on Wikia. Less than Memory Alpha, but more than the Halopedia. We're a little behind the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki, but we did spark more traffic from them on Apr 17th.

Apparently this high traffic ranking is enough to decide to delay upgrading the Narutopedia till the 29th instead of now ^_^ heh. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Apr 24, 2009 @ 03:21 (UTC)

The post listed us inside of the top 10, a staff member referred me to this list. I could swear I made another post somewhere around here, cause I definitely remember making a comment about how we even beat out the Halo wiki. Apparently there are some more interesting stats at http://www.quantcast.com/naruto.wikia.com rotfl I can see some real interesting ones.
Our primary audience are teenagers at home, few collage students come. We also get a good number of asians and other ethnicities here. While Narutopedia, Naruto Wiki, and Naruto Wikia get us the most people from searches it seams we swipe a good bit of people searching for the bleach wiki, heh. Even more interesting we get traffic from searches like "sakura haruno", "hidan", and "akatsuki", namely a good bit of akatsuki stuff. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) May 17, 2009 @ 10:04 (UTC)
Hah, you have to love these statistics on the right. 1/3 more people from the narutofan forms come here than they do to leafninja. Hmm, I wonder if we should poke crunchyroll and see if they wan't to share traffic or something, in a way that makes the stats brings crunchyroll up on the list of sites people come here also visit. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) May 19, 2009 @ 07:40 (UTC)
