"Friends You Can Count On" (仲間の背中, Nakama no Senaka) is episode 236 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime.

Friends You Can Count On (仲間の背中, Nakama no Senaka) is episode 236 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime.

In Konohagakure, Shino is telling a few younger Konoha shinobi aare curious about the upcoming war. Shino tells them that this was in fact true but he was not worried because he had friends he could depend on. Shino recounts a mission he had while a genin to capture a bandit. The mission was initially unsuccessful, as the bandit was able to defeat Shino in close combat taijutsu and at the same time called him weak and mocked him use of insects in battle. With his pride hurt, Shino locked himself away at his home, but Kiba, Akamaru and Hinata instead opted to help him train to improve his taijutsu. Kiba and Hinata later track down the bandit but are overwhelmed and eventually caught in the direct line of one of his attacks. They are however sacved by Shino who then engages the bandit in close-combat and eventually overwhelms him with his Iron Tackle. Hinata then frees herself and Kiba and with their help, the bandit is incapacitated. It is later revealed that Kurenai, who was noticeably absent during the events, had been watching over them all along.

Trivia

A running gag in this episode is that while soaking in the hot springs, Shino's pores seemingly open up too much allowing his bugs to leave his body, greatly creeping Kiba out.

In the [[Leaf Village]] [[Shino]] is teaching his students about the value of having friends at your backs. Shino tells them a story of when he failed to bring down a [[Takigakure Bandit|bandit]] because of his in ability to use [[taijutsu]] (close-combat). He secludes himself to work alone when [[Kiba]] and [[Hinata]] say that Sensei [[Kurenai]] wants them to go to a hotsprings much to Kiba's distaste. As they rest Kiba and Shino both are in the springs and then Shino pees out bugs! Kiba yells so loud saying: What the hell is this?!? That Hinata can hear from the other spring. The next day he learns taijutsu from Hinata and Kiba teaches him a few things too. It shows the springs and again Kiba is yelling, and it shows Hinata out of the water with a towel worrying. The next day a messenger pidgeon from Kurenai says that the bandit is in the area. Kiba and Hinata go ahead leaving Shino, who had said just before that he didn't feel qualified to be on their team, much to Kiba's and Hinata's shock. Hinata uses [[byakugan]] to track the bandit but the bandit traps them using bug themed and [[fire]] style jutsu like Fire Hurricane. Just when it looks they've been beaten Shino comes in a saves them and they all attack to finish him off. Kurenai see's the whole thing and comes out to congratulate them. It shows the hot spring again and Kurenai and Hinata are talking in the water, when Kiba yells again. Shino then ends his lesson. Then Naruto is on the boat and looks as if he remembers the bug user but he gives up. Shino then sneezes and looks off into the distance.
