Hiramekarei (ヒラメカレイ) is a double-handled sword wielded by Chōjūrō. The Hiramekarei has two holes in the upper end of the blade that shoot out chakra, which can seemingly be formed into weapons such as a hammer. However, it is apparently heavy, as Chōjūrō tires easily from carrying it.

According to Suigetsu, this is the only sword still in Kirigakure's possession out of the original seven Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist blades and also that his brother Mangetsu mastered the use of this sword.

Trivia

  • Both hirame and karei are Japanese names for species of flounders. The flounders with their eyes on the left side of their body are called hirame (鮃, 平目, 比目魚), while those with their eyes on the right side are called karei (). Befitting its name, Hiramekarei is shaped like a fish.
  • Hirame can also come from hirameku (閃く, "to flash", or "to flicker"). Karei can also mean splendor (華麗).
  • It is possible that Mangetsu Hōzuki might have been the previous owner of this sword since he was one of the previous generation of Seven Swordsman but was not seen with a sword like the other revived swordsmen. Given that Fuguki Suikazan was the previous owner of Samehada, and his sword is currently in the possession of Killer Bee.
  • This is the only one of the seven swords not to have a direct kanji translation, due to its name being written in katakana.
  • On page 4 of chapter 466, Hiramekarei is seen to have what appears to be a separating line down its middle. Given this line, and the fact that it has two seperate, connected handles, it is possible that Hiramekarei can be split down its middle into two swords.
