Ibiki Morino (森乃イビキ, Morino Ibiki) is the examiner for the first part of the Chunin Exams and the head of the Konoha's ANBU Torture and Interrogation Force.
Appearance
The wounds on Ibiki's head.
Ibiki's head is covered to hide burn marks, punctures from where screws were used, and long slash marks. The scars are indicative of the physical torture he has endured in the past, and illustrates his capacity to endure pain without giving up the desired information to the enemy. The anime's filler arcs show him to have a younger brother, Idate.
Personality
Ibiki is the commanding officer of the Konoha ANBU Torture and Interrogation Force (木ノ葉暗部拷問・尋問部隊, Konoha Anbu Gomon/Jinmon Butai), and is the designer of the Chunin Exam's first test. Described as a sadist by some, Ibiki has the ability to subject people to great suffering without ever using physical torture. His interrogation skills rely solely on his capability to torture the mind. He has complete knowledge of human psychology; by attacking a person's mind, he can gain control over their spirit.
Part I
Ibiki is the first examiner of the Chunin Exams, testing his students during the written exam with questions too hard for any Genin to answer. So Ibiki secretly put two Chunin into the crowd to answer the questions and make other Genin try to cheat off of their exams. Although the point of the test was to test the participants' information-gathering skills, Naruto Uzumaki did not realize this. Nevertheless, Naruto is able to pass the exam without answering a single question, a fact Ibiki takes great interest in.
Ibiki later guards Konoha's borders during the invasion of the village by Sunagakure and Otogakure. He recounts to his colleagues the dark past of Orochimaru, and greets Jiraiya when he comes to their aid. He appears again in the anime's Land of Tea arc, meeting with his younger brother Idate again for the first time in years.

He interrogates Kakuzu's bounty-hunting contact in order to gain information on Akatsuki.
Pains Invasion arc
Jiraiya later sends him a prisoner from Amegakure. When his interrogation methods prove ineffective, he calls on Inoichi Yamanaka's assistance, and ultimately distracts the Akatsuki leader, Pain, in order to give Inoichi time to complete the job.
Trivia
- "Morino Ibiki" means "a snore in the forest", which clearly refers to his resemblance to a big bear.
- The part where Ibiki takes his head protector off to show his scars was cut out in the English dub.
