The Infiltration and Reconnaissance Party (潜入偵察隊, Sennyū Teisatsutai) was an elite team led by Anko Mitarashi, tasked with tracking down Kabuto Yakushi, and later with acquiring information on Akatsuki's forces for the Allied Shinobi Forces, during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

History

Invasion of Pain Arc

When the team is first observed it consists of Anko Mitarashi, Yamato and Sai. However, Yamato was ultimately forced to abandon the mission, after sensing that Naruto Uzumaki had already reached his eight-tailed form.[1]

Confining the Jinchūriki Arc

Following a trail of dead bodies left in the wake of Kabuto Yakushi's acclimatization to his newly developed abilities, a team comprised from Anko, Tokuma Hyūga and two other Konohagakure shinobi, conducts a preliminary autopsy of the deceased Takigakure shinobi. Confirming her suspicions about the manner of their demise, Anko asserts that their target is progressively becoming more like Orochimaru but that she is unable to fathom why Kabuto would leave such evidence this exposed. Tokuma proposes that it may be deliberate, causing Anko to wonder what Kabuto's true intentions are, questioning whether he is aiming for Konohagakure or Akatsuki instead.[2]

Continuing their covert operation deep within unknown territory, the number of corpses consistently escalates in steady increments, suggesting to one member that they were potentially heading towards a trap. Still unsure of the purpose behind this decomposing route, Anko has Takuma scan ahead with his Byakugan, where he observes and identifies Kabuto conversing with Madara Uchiha. Believing this to be the location of Akatsuki's headquarters, Anko announces that they must inform the village immediately, despite her reservations surrounding Kabuto's schemes.[3]

Shinobi World War Arc

With the team's composition altered once again, Muta Aburame, a new addition, has the worms in the immediate vicinity gather intel for him about the local area, while Tokuma verifies that the chakra of the white snake that recently slithered nearby belonged to Kabuto. Upon discovering a huge number of living beings residing below the surface, Muta has Tokuma investigate by observing what is directly beneath them, something which should be easy for a Byakugen of his caliber. Tokuma's subsequent incoherent outburst, confirms their worst fears.[4]

Ordering her reluctant team members to quickly retreat and report this vital information immediately, due to the movement of a significant amount of resurrected shinobi, Anko elects to stay behind in order to search the vacant hideout. Fleeing as fast as humanly possible, Muta silently prays for his captain’s safety, unaware that she was currently engaged in a fierce confrontation with Kabuto. Now placed in danger themselves after being located by Chūkichi's sensory abilities, Tokuma nominates to hold back the approaching opposition, while Ranka and Muta escape.[5]

Kabuto restrains a defeated Anko.

Sustaining minor injuries and separated from his allies, Muta in desperation has his insects deliver the necessary details to base while they consecutively maintain an Insect Jamming Technique to conceal his current position, as Tokuma cowers from the destructive explosions behind a nearby tree. With Anko ironically captured by her former target at an undisclosed destination, Muta seemingly stumbles into the Surprise Attack Division's encampment but it is swiftly exposed as a devious trap, orchestrated by the Surprise Attack and Diversion Platoon from afar. Manipulated into grabbing a dazed Zaji, a substantial amount of volatile clay attached to Muta is then denoted. Kankurō manages to successfully retrieve and save Zaji, unfortunately these actions are unable to save Muta but before there is even time to mourn, they are assaulted by the two remaining members of the defeated Infiltration and Reconnaissance Party, both of whom are now under Sasori's control.[6] Eventually, the incapacitated pair are recovered thanks largely to Omoi's proficient sword skills, where their wounds are then healed by Kiri.[7]

Trivia

  • Anko has been observed in teams tracking down Kabuto on three separate occasions, with different respective members each time. However, it is likely the team did not actually become the Infiltration and Reconnaissance Party until its most recent incarnation.
