Changes: My Name is Konohamaru!

"My Name is Konohamaru!" (木ノ葉丸だ　コレ!, Konohamaru da Kore!) is episode 2 of the original Naruto anime.

Synopsis

When it is time for Naruto to take a picture for his Ninja Registration Form, he uses a bizarre look to take it. Because of this, the Third Hokage tells him to retake his photo, but Naruto refuses to do it, and uses the Sexy Technique to persuade the Third, which causes the latter to fall in shock. The Third's grandson, Konohamaru Sarutobi, enters the room and charges at him, wishing to challenge for the title as the fifth Hokage, but he ends up falling. Konohamaru's trainer, Ebisu, enters the room, wondering if he was okay. He notices Naruto, and identifies him as the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox. Konohamaru tries to claim that Naruto made him fall, which causes Naruto to grab him and tell him that it was his own fault. Ebisu tells Naruto to take his hands off of the hounorable grandson of the hounorable Third Hokage. Believing this will stop Naruto from doing anything, Konohamaru chastises him, but gets punched by Naruto anyway, shocking both he and Ebisu.

After Naruto leaves, Ebisu informs Konohamaru not to let Naruto bother him, as he is beneath him. He carries on to say that if he wished to quickly be the next Hokage, he needs to stick by him. However, during his speech, Konohamaru slipped out to follow Naruto without him noticing. Ebisu panics and rushes off to find him.

While walking through Konohagakure, Naruto is followed by Konohamaru who tries to avoid being spotted. However, Naruto realizes that he is being followed, seeing through Konohamaru's disguises. Impressed by this, Konohamaru orders Naruto to train him and teach him the Sexy Technique. While seeming uninterested at first, after Konohamaru refers to Naruto as "boss", he changes his mind. After training, Konohamaru explains to Naruto that the reason he wants to be the next Hokage was so that people can see him as more than just the grandson of the Third Hokage. Naruto then explains that in order for Konohamaru to be the next Hokage, he must defeat him.

Elsewhere, on the rooftop of the Hokage's office, the Third is seen looking up at the Fourth Hokage's monument. After Iruka appears and explains how Naruto believes that becoming a genin will change things, the Third explains that people don't change easily. The Third goes on to say that due to Naruto being the jinchūriki of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, people fear the beast inside could take over or that Naruto may very well be the beast.

Ebisu finally finds Konohamaru. Scolding at Naruto, Ebisu tells Konohamaru to come with him, to which Konohamaru refuses, announcing that he is learning how to beat his grandfather so he could become Hokage. Ebisu explains that there is more to fighting to be an Hokage, which of includes being skilled at a 1000 techniques, and says Konohamaru doesn't even know one. Konohamaru responds by performing the Sexy Technique. Upset at this, Ebisu tries to get Konohamaru to drag Konohamaru away with him, believing that Naruto was turning him into a delinquent. Through his Telescope Technique, the Third watches as Naruto performs the Shadow Clone Technique to battle Ebisu. Ebisu confident in being able to beat Naruto is surprised when the latter and his clones use the Sexy Technique, causing him to have a huge nose bleed and fall unconscious. Naruto tells Konohamaru that there is no shortcut to become the Hokage, announcing that they would be rivals, and that they would fight one day for the title.

Trivia

When Naruto's Ninja Registration Form is seen, his Ninja-ID is mistakenly given as 102607 instead of 012607.
In the edited English version, when the Third Hokage and Ebisu saw Naruto perform the Sexy Technique, the blood from their noses was censored.
