Ninjutsu?

I know that all the scientific ninja tool is kinda complicated, but shouldn't the mist be treated as a tool rather than ninjutsu? I do realize that the presense of hand seals points out otherwise, but we've already seen hand seals necessary for a tool (Kote), and all these tools are still powered by chakra which one still needs to control. Plus, as Mitsuki and Sarada noted, no ninjutsu can produce real viruses. Ravenlot 27 (talk) 17:36, December 22, 2019 (UTC)

I think this is a bit more like the difference in what Kama can and can't absorb as explained by Kawaki. There's Water Release where you create water with you own chakra, and Water Release where you control already existing water. I understand this to be akin to Water Release controlling already existing water, but in this case it's the tool-based virus. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 21:41, December 22, 2019 (UTC)
My understanding of it is that it's a tool. --Sarutobii2 (talk) 23:03, December 24, 2019 (UTC)
I think they meant the virus itself is being derived from whatever tool Boro uses, but the mist itself isn’t? Kinda just spit balling here, but the fact he uses hand seals is honestly throwing me off. Is he using chakra to expel the mist from the tool? It would keep consistent with the Kāma weakness we learned about, since the mist is a pre existing physical matter. Otherwise I don’t understand the need for hand seal usage. —-Mina Uzushiogakure Symbol talk | contribs 03:22, December 25, 2019 (UTC)
At the very start of the chapter, Sarada says that the mist must be a ninjutsu of some sort since she saw Boro weaving seals to produce it. This is before the reveal that the mist is a virus and all that, but if you read the whole conversation in order it kind of comes across as if the virus reveal is adding onto Sarada's statement rather than overriding it. Putting it all together, we're told that Boro uses seals, so it must involve ninjutsu in some way, but the virus itself is ultimately created by tools, effectively making it both. Of course, this is all complicated by the fact that the Kote also uses seals, but it's possible this is just a case of Sarada (or even the author) forgetting that detail. We probably won't know anything for sure until Boro gets a profile in another volume or two though.--BeyondRed (talk) 06:14, December 25, 2019 (UTC)
