    • Was that sweat part really necessary (extra bonus for Neji, really), my appetite's missing now o_o

    • The sweat part was such a waste of time. Half the episode focused on that and not much happened in this episode.

He either rolled there really fast, or used his magic sweat, and will use it's special powers in the exam showdown...who knows :p

    • Pretty meh episode. Looking forward to the next one

    • I think the sweat part was vital. It probably has sumn to do with his ninja abilities. Almost like the Akimichi clan's Calorie technique.

        Loading editor
    • I'm pretty sure I saw Sari. Anyone can confirm that? Also, way more than 30 people entered. What the hell was with that? Was it 30 teams and translated incorrectly?

        Loading editor
    • I'm disappointed that instead of using a combo of Matsuri and Sari, the anime team decided to make a new character (the dark haired one) and pair her with Matsuri, ignoring canonical Sari.

For the episode, it's good in my opinion. Fuu made me laugh so hard, seriously, her personality is perfect!!! It's been a while since Naruto made me laugh and the fact that this episode did means that it must have done something right. For the bad, like seriously, what's with the "ugly fat men" (or just fat/ugly) cliche? Can't we have handsome and hot male characters and an ugly female for a change?

I'm looking forward the most to the actual battles, 1 on 1.

Do we actually know that Temari and Kankuro didn't become a Chūnin during their Chūnin Exam, 'cause from what I recall, Shikamaru was noted to be the only one who passed from Konoha.

        Loading editor
    • No idea, Temari and Kankuro became chunin in the same year, two years prior to their Sha no Sho ages.

Didn't Shikamaru say right back at Shippuden Episode 2 that Temari/Kankuro had become jonin? Of course, Kankuro may have become a jonin after Temari, but Shikamaru's statement implies they became jonin at the same time...

Agree, that was creepy and disgusting. Good I ate my meal before watching the episode.

    • It's legit that Temari and Kankuro are Jonin already, btw.

        Loading editor
    • Does that mess up the timeline somewhat?

        Loading editor
    • Actually, I'm pretty ok with this episode, some parts were absolutely foolish (Choji's craving for food and Burami's overabundant perspiration, not to mention Fu's childishness) but we got to see what some of the genin were capable of and I find that to be a perk that outshines the foolish parts. A bonus was that we found out some more about the political aspect of the exams, with all the other villages being up to something, I'm really looking forward to that particular side of it. Another thing was that we found out a little more about the fauna inhabiting the demon desert: giant three-tailed scorpions, hahaha!

        Loading editor
    • Nope. Gaara was a chunin earlier than this exam as well, so there probably was a chunin exam in Sunagakure, without Konoha's participation. Or maybe they became chunin and jonin for some other reasons.

        Loading editor
    • During Obito's flashback we see a Chuunin Exam that seems like Konoha exclusive, so it is a given that villages can do it on their own, without inviting foreigners. And Temari was Jonin at the day of Naruto return, but it was never explained when she passed her exam, so I think timeline in this case is ok.

In regards to villages holding their own exams, I think that only applies during war-time where alliances between the villages are basically null and void. It also goes back to the Third Hokage's speech at the end of the second test of the chunin-exam of the manga, with the villages "agreeing to hold the chunin exams together as an alternative to war" or something like that. That of course doesn't mean that the sand siblings couldn't have participated in a chunin-exam held in another village prior to this arc. But I agree timeline does seem to fit so far.

What fanservice? The mini battle or Fu's remarks about taking a bath together with Temari and/or Gaara?

    • Ususally, they don't, at least not in Naruto. So it's quite a surprise. :D

    • Well, they should, because there's nothing special about bouncing breasts, it's called physics, they exist in real world, apparently not in Naruto, but when they do appear once in a while, it's suddenly called a fanservice.

    • I liked the short brawl between the genin and that the other characters get their fair part of characterisation (althought I can't stand characters like Fū and to think that she will become even more important later on.....ugh). The rest seemed lackluster, but not bad to me. Overall an okay episode I guess.

        Loading editor
    • Everything was fine until Chōji, Ino and Sakura became helpless against a Scorpion, nevermind it being bigger than the average one. As I predicted — Fū is another Naruto. I really want to know what that suicide guy was thinking on trying to get to Gaara. Gaara was have easily blocked the attack anyways lol. Overall on a scale 1-10, I'd give this a 6/10.

    • Is it just me, or did this episode feel very Springtime of Youth-ish? You're telling me Neji could react fast enough to rotate some sweat away, but couldn't do the same for some wood?

Remember how serious and intense the last Chunin Exams were? Good times. At least this Demon Desert looks like the perfect area for some Fist of the North Star shit to go down.

    • Lol so true NeedleJizo. Neji's death was just bad.

    • Did anyone at first glance mistake Kankuro for Rasa at the beginning before the puppetry? No? I mean I felt pretty dumb once I realized, but man they looked too similar to me.

Well, the current anime arc is semi-canon after all :) Or maybe Neji was already tired during fight against Ten tails and simply could not rotate fast enough :)

    • Yeah I know. Kankuro should just wear his body suit. ALWAYS. At least the facepaint.

    • That fight during the dinner probably was to indicate some future battles like Rock Lee vs. Shira, Chōji vs. Burami and Sakura vs. Ameno...

    • I hope Lee battles the guy who stopped his attack cause that would be a good match. Hope that was foreshadowing to later in the exams

Definitely. Maybe something like, half the teams get a document, the other half not. Whoever has them at the end...well, that one pretty much explains itself. Not much different, but different at least.

        Loading editor
    • Exactly. I understand that second part is designed to be tough and teams must be forced to fight each other so the number of participants is greatly reduced, but it is just a copy - paste. After first part, that was good and different, I expected something at least slightly original.

    • I'm pretty sure we all know from this how the third exam will go. Ugh. I see the Akatsuki pulling a "Suna Crush" thing as a continuation of this pattern. The only problem with that is I'm sure something like that would of been noted in early part II (on the basis of the storyline), even though I'm sure Kishi didn't even think about the Chunin Exam they all graduated from at that time.

        Loading editor
    • Well, in canon Fuu was captured before Naruto returns so yes, very likely.

Very Springtime of Youth-ish. Probably because most of the episode focused on Team Gai and Lee got a little bit of spotlight, but even so it felt very springtime of youth-ish.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the new/expanded upon characters in this arc so I don't go insane from character overload? Also, for a filler arc, I'm really looking forward to new episodes. Fuu's antics are just amazing xD.

        Loading editor
    • I'd have to say I'm a fan of Fu myself. She is Naruto like, but she still seems like her own person to me, which sometimes Kishi has a problem doing it seems

        Loading editor
    • I just watched the episode today, was pretty good! Seeing Fu reminds me of Naruto before he grew up, she's basically a woman version of the younger Naruto.

All in all, things are going well and I don't see this being a long arc as they are getting through it fairly quickly! :)

Gaara was at Sunagakure. Unless you're saying Gaara can manipulate sand around Konoha from so far away, well…

    • I wouldn't doubt it ;) but no it was just a minor error the anime messed up on.

        Loading editor
    • I know in some of the games, Temari was able to use her fan as a makeshift glider. So that explains it, sorta.

        Loading editor
    • lets just assume Temari used Kamatari (her summoning) to Reverse Summon her. Or other Suna ninja for the Chunin Exam could have Summoned her through a Scroll or Jutsu....many possibilities.

This is filler! Kishi's manga has nothing to do with Pierrot's anime-only catastrophe.

I'm all for new kkg or techniques, but here I don't think Pierot would stoop so low, besides, we've kinda already seen "bodily fluids" being used in ninjutsu, with both Kidōmaru's Spider Sticky Gold and Akamaru's Dynamic Marking it's basically what the technique consists of, sweat and urin.

It's anime. Instead of trying to find a logical reason, just go with it. That's my answer when something that shouldn't be possible happens.
