So Ajisai can use paper techniques as well, no wonder Konan took an interest in her. But that flashback brings up some questions: if it's believable that Hanzo was still leading Ame up until the start of Part II, and he came into power before the start of the Second Shinobi World War...exactly how old was he?

VERY Springtime of Youth-ish with Tenten being able to summon anything that was necessary at the moment. And there's NO FUCKING WAY she conveniently had a cabbage and eggs stored inside a scroll in a universe where food pills are commonly used. You know they went bad.

P.S. - That Kakashi troll tho.

    • Was okay I guess. I always felt kinda sad for Tenten for being so unbelievably insignificant...and this episode somehow makes fun of it. But I guess it's not a bad thing to dedicate an episode or two for the lesser characters once in a while. Also, I have to admit that I'm curious about the combi Tenten-Ajisai in the tunnels. Lots and lots of summonings await us.

    • I may be in the minority here, but I actually rather somewhat enjoyed this episode. Especially knowing now that the Ame trio was sent out there to snuff out Fū, it makes things a little more interesting.

    • Making Ajisai Tenten's rival. I liked the episode. Also, in the preview, it looks like Ajisai summons an alive version of the giant panda summoned my the Animal Path, or is it just me?

    • the giant panda was alive when pain summoned it. at least according to the wikia it was.

    • This was definitely a step-up from the previous episodes.

LOL I thought I was the only one who thought Kakashi was being a troll. I laughed the entire time.

The whole "Tenten being convenient" just continues to add fuel to the fire of her getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the Konoha 11 (or 13 if you add Sai & Sasuke). The Rain ninjas are interesting, especially the one we all know will become one of the Six Paths of Pain. I'm just going to assume that they will have something to do with Fuu's capture.

I can't knock this episode, it was better than the previous 2.

    • Now I wonder: Is Neji actually a sensor... He sensed Ajisai and Tenten's chakra without the Byakugan.

Edit!!: Never mind. No he didn't.

Well he was always hinted to be a Sensor, but we always thought that he was 'cause of the Byakugan. Same with Hinata and Kiba, which we attributed to Byakugan and sense of smell too.

Edit!!: No, he did use the Byakugan. It was activated in one frame and it was instantly deactivated when we got close to his face. Never mind then...

    • Another lacklustre episode, though more meh than cringe-inducing as the last couple. Just too many flashbacks for my taste as usual.

I totally agree with you on this one, next episode looks promising, two opposing shinobi in a pinch together. While it doesn't add anything new to Tenten's abilities or character it does help explain where she got the chakra needed to use the bashosen from during the fourth shinobi war. And that is at least a bonus of sorts. though I'd prefer her to whip up something else than her regular bunch of tricks.

What annoys me a little though, is that I can't help but think that Ajisai has just borrowed some of Pain and Konan's skills, paper and summoning skills specifically. hopefully I'm going to be proven wrong with the next episode.

still this episode cracked me up quite a bit, Kakashi trolling Guy, Guy being just as bad as Rock Lee by calling Tenten convenient and Tenten storing a minor pantry in her scrolls. Atleast it's not as bad as the ladder from a few episodes ago.

    • It was a decent episode, but I wish they would cool it with the flashbacks. Kinda ruined the episode for me.

    • No wonder Ajisai becomes the Animal Path. In life she uses the transportation technique. Seems like this chunin exams is all about matching the konoha 11 up with mirror images of themselves for rivals.

The episode was meh. Looking forward to seeing more of Ajisai that's it.

    • Gotta say, I really liked this episode, though it highlights some bad things.

Not the whole, Tenten is convenient or "Fight Your Rival" rubbish.

But if you think about it, in an arc that should really be focusing on the last member of Team 7, Sakura, we've barely seen anything of her, in fact, every hurdle and solution so far has come from Team Guy, with Team 8 dealing with Team Kazami, who were set as unique characters this arc.

So with Guy's team fighting the main Ame group, the main Suna group and Team 8 fighting the main Kusa group, there's woefully little for Sakura and co. at the minute besides having met Fu.

I've always thought Kishi was bad with female characters, basically always delegating them to support and such, but this arc really isn't helping when seemingly the best the writing staff could come up with was that "Tenten is convenient" and such.

As it stands, this arc, which should have been the opportunity to show Sakura as a strong and independant member of Team 7, with neither Naruto, Kakashi or Sasuke to back her up or outshine her, has been utterly lacking so far, and of the unique teams remaining, there's one Suna team with another Female Med Nin to act as rival. Which, if that's the direction they take, doesn't help Sakura to stand out in the slightest from anyone else in this arc.

Whoa, completely forgot about Sakura. You are right, this arc is supposed to showcase her hard work and evolution in becoming a formidable ninja that doesn't need to rely on Naruto or Sasuke. I hate how they have portrayed Sakura and all the other females in Konoha 11.

Tenten: Forgettable and like Guy and Lee said, she is convenient because she can summon a million things.

Ino: Probably the most powerful konoha 11 female when it comes to ninjutsu because her clan's jutsu but really doesn't get to show it off. She lacks confidence like Hinata but to a lesser extent.

Hinata: Always shown to be swooning over Naruto and daydreaming about him. Extremely shy and passive. Gets annoying and predictable.

Sakura: Always needs rescuing by Naruto, Sasuke or Kakashi. Supposedly the strongest medical nin other than Tsunade but doesn't show it until 4th Shinobi World War.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, Hinata was always lacking confidence and all, so her depending on memories of Naruto is fine up until like the Pain Fight when she basically declares she's standing on her own.

But let's look at the score card?

Tenten is basically backline support for her team, the others are all insanely strong taijutsu, she's a weapon master, but even that is barely touched on.

Hinata, heart and soul of her team, every time we see her, it's something about Naruto (A problem for many characters who seemingly can't do jack if Naruto isn't the motivation)

Ino, has a great and interesting ability, is notably a back line fighter due to its downside, but that makes sense in her team as Chouji is their only front liner, her and Shikamaru being mage support basically. For some reason became the med-nin of her party and basically does nothing throughout part 2. Shika got a whole big thing with Asuma the first time, Chouji got a whole big thing when Asuma was resurrected, Ino, get's nothing solo.

And Sakura. Sakura showed so, so much promise at the start of part 2. She took down Sasori. Sure, she had support, but her skills were immense, she was strong as hell, but after that she's spent all of it chasing after Naruto and Sasuke. Even when Naruto and Sasuke developed skills and abilities far surpassing their mentors, all Sakura ever managed was to match Tsunade. Which is utterly disappointing.

I could turn this into a whole thing on the status of women in Naruto, but that would be entirely off topic, so I'll just get back to the episode.

I like what they're doing with Ajisai, it's interesting and I look forward to seeing how this develops into her being one of the Paths of Pain.

Great points and I'll get back on topic as well. I'm very intrigued to see more of Ajisai because like we have noted, woman in Naruto aren't focused on a lot. Her summoning tags are an interesting way to attack because they are quicker than Tenten's scrolls and take less time.

    • they say tenten is skilled wtih weapons ,but if she was against an aktsuki member she'd be useless
        Loading editor
    • Quite a few members of the extremely skilled Konoha 11 would have a big problem just landing a blow on any member of Akatsuki, be it in a group or alone. Tenten has faced one member of the akatsuki in direct combat, and Kisame was pawning her entire team with only 30% of his chakra.

Clamimng she'd be useless against them does ring true, but it's and unfair comparison, like comparing an Academy student to a Jonin.

Sakura didn't take down Sasori with support. Granny Chiyo took down Sasori with support from Sakura.

I never got the impression this new arc was going to focus on Sakura. It seems to me this arc was supposed to put a little focus on everybody. Which is what it's doing.

We've had episodes focus on Neji, Lee, Kiba, and now Tenten. To focus on everyone there needs to be episodes on Hinata and Shino plus Sakura's team. I really hope that's not the case because we really don't need another flashback of Hinata googling over Naruto. I would LOVE to see one for Shino though. The 4th Shinobi World War arc episode with Torune was interesting. Same with Ino, Chouji and Sakura. We've barely seen them train and have flashbacks about them.

... Except Sakura destroyed the Third Kazekage puppet, developed the antidote they needed to survive that fight at all and was the one who actually used the seal Chiyo had to stop Sasori's body. I won't deny Chiyo played a massive part and was the one to cast the finishing blow, but as Sakura played the part of the primary front liner and was the reason they could combat the poison at all, it's Chiyo that was acting as the primary support unit in their confrontation. Hel, Chiyo couldn't even have cast the finishing blow with Mother and Father had Sakura not broken the Third Kazekage.

And while I do agree that this arc is seemingly set to give everybody focus and is doing so (although I still find Team 10 woefully under represented so far) I think it's a missed opportunity to focus on Sakura, the heroine of the series and last member of Team 7 who is undertaking this exam without the other two. You can't deny this would have been a great chance to show off everything Sakura can do without living in the shadow of Sasuke the Prodigy or Naruto the Child of Prophecy.

Aren't you forgetting something, most of the time (more than 85% of the fight) Sakura was nothing but a puppet with good destructive force used by Chiyo, and also note that Chiyo never used the antidote rather she gave it to Sakura. I would say the "Third Kazekage" (Puppet) + Sasouri(Puppeteer) is very much comparable to "Sakura"(Puppet) + Chiyo(Puppeteer). I agree that Sakura did destroy the Third Kazekage puppet on her own (she was on her own for this tiny window), but I bet she wouldn't have made it past Hiruko if it was not for Chiyo's skills.
