    What we learned:

    • Bunpuku apparently knew a sealing jutsu that he taught to an unnamed shinobi.
    • Gaara already knew that Fu was a jinchuriki.

That about sums up this episode. Nothing beyond the two jinchuriki getting "stabbed" (I use that loosely) lol.

    • The "unnamed" shinobi is called Hōichi, we got his name in the previous episode. I liked this episode, I wonder if Fu is going to get Chomei extracted by Hōichi and then the Rain shinobi will jump in there and steal the chakra from him somehow.

    • Yoro and Kegon forgot that they had a mission to protect Fu and they just yelled, "Fu, come back!" when Fu was leaving to rescue Gaara. They just.. gave up XD Pretty dissapointed, I thought that the battle between Hoichi and Gaara would be epic but nope. Just playing the biwa and chains came out of his body. Apparently, Gaara's "Absolute Defense" couldn't dodge the chain. Maybe the chain was fast enough to beat the speed of Gaara's Defense or what? And Fu was similar to Naruto? Absolutely. Also, Gaara's Sand Clone was undone when it was discovered. Does it work that way?

No way. Rope Escape Technique seemingly is used for escaping from ropes and surely can't be used against chakra chains.

Dont forget this is like beginning of Shippuden Gaara; his Shield was much slower before Shukaku was extracted. Also, Gaara left behind a Sand Clone Dummy since it was mainly just a decoy and stand in; it seemed pretty lifeless. Even the Three Sand Clones he used in the fight were colourless compared to the ones he used in the War. Maybe this is to show there are different types of ways he can use the Sand CLone technique. Im also really happy they shows Gaara using the Tailed Beast Red Chakra, that was a first.

    • It was annoying that Gaara was doing absolutely NOTHING the entire fight. I mean, it's very likely that the chains just paralysed him, but seeing somebody struggling with the chains for the entirety of the episode is not really what I would name an "interesting battle". Also, I liked how Team Matsuri just casually walked off like there wasn't even a fight. Just when they were out of proximity, they started running again...

Next episode, Neji will do the stuff that made him jonin. I was hoping to see more from the two Takigakure guys though. Those are jonin already, it would've been awesome if they ambushed the bald guy. But I guess that won't happen.

Edit: One thing that made me wonder just now...how come that the full Akatsuki (sans Orochimaru) needed three days to extract Shukaku, but a random musician can do it in, let's say an hour if not being interrupted? Not only that, but he could also pull out another tailed beast at the same time? Either it's complete crap, or that musician could solo the entire Akatsuki. Now that would be amazing!

If we remembered the fight between Lee and Gaara at the Chunin Exam held in Konohagakure years ago, we could tell that Gaara's Shield was fast. Even Lee had to take off his 'things that made him very heavy and harder to move'. But if Lee didn't take off those, he couldn't get through the shield. And in this episode, the speed of the chains was much slower than Lee's speed back then. So, Gaara's Shield should've dodged the chains. But for some reasons, it didn't.

I knew that the Sand Clone that Gaara left behind was a decoy and lifeless. But was it undone automatically when it was touched or seen or discovered? Does it work that way?

I noticed that as well. Didn't Chiyo even state that you need a lot of time because you need a sealing technique stronger than the tailed beast? If Hōichi can do it in an hour, Akatsuki should have done it in a second! MASSIVE PLOT HOLE FAIL BY THE ANIME PEOPLE THERE >_<

    • boring episode, even if there were parts that problably could've been worse: Kankuro's dunebuggy puppet, team matsuri's exceptionel lack of stamina, the konoha trio's ridiculous/childish attempt at executing their mission or Gaara not going all out on that priest dude

but Neji not telling his team they have two of the same scroll or that neither Tenten or lee thinks about this beforehand, is well beyond stupid. I think they're starting to get affected by their sensei

I normally enjoy fillers but this getting a bit tiresome with all the mediocore, sub-par and outright bad episodes.

one think I was surprised to see however was Ittetsu amongst the genin Kankuro saved

    • honestly I`ve given up on this filler a long time ago, tell me when we get back to the canon, for I can`t take this mediocrity any more.

        Loading editor
    • the episode was overall disappointing, i wanted to see Gaara fight back, realistically he should have easily decimated the priest since he is kage level. as for the chains speed being slow like someone said before. thats not exactly true it could have been just a representation of the art to us it looks slow but in universe it may be blindingly fast.

a good chance the chains are blindingly fast case in point Foo flew off to get away from them and a second later she was stabbed with the chain. this means those chains are pretty fast

now with the unsealing a tailed beast fast like that yes thats a bit of a stretch of canon but really there has been 2 others who unsealed a tailed beast that fast Obito and Madara with obito he did so when the seal was already unraveling with madara he did so using Chakra chains this can mean that Sealing chains are stronger and faster than that of the Akatsuki's Sealing Technique: Phantom Dragons Nine Consuming Seals

        Loading editor
    • In regards to this sealing jutsu, I'd like to point out that it doesn't even seem to be actually taking the tailed beast. A lot like when Naruto fought Kurama, it actually just seems to be taking their chakra, as the tailed beast themselves seem to be left behind.

well in reality we have never seen what it looks like inside the jinchuuriki when they are extracted it could very well be that the tailed beasts chakra is extracted first which weakens the seal and comes the entire body in reality they are just masses of chakra anyways it could be that once the chakra is extracted what appears to be there body decays instantly

The rushed ending is probably because of poor ratings. If they got good ratings, it probably wouldn't be a rushed ending, so I suspect that the ratings aren't good so they're simply getting off the filler and back to canon stuff so they don't kill the anime off and resulting in people not watching it anymore.

Would've been much more appreciated after Naruto defeated Pain. I wonder what the ratings were like while the animators were shoving a damn ostrich down my throat.

No. Ratings should not have much to fall. Fillers arches were never more than 20 series. Moreover, they must have all been long-planned.

        Loading editor
    • Nothing seems rushed, i assume they were always going to end the arc after 20 episodes. We've already seen the Konoha 9 fight, so all that's left after that was Gaara's assassination. As for how everybody becomes a chunin without there being a final, i presume there just gonna make everybody who survives the sandstorm a Chūnin, since its an ordeal to survive even for a Jōnin.

I haven't watched the anime in about three months. So happy to know the canon is returning soon. The only part that I thought could possibly save this filler arc would be the individual final battles (I thought this would be a good chance to see Neji and Rock Lee have their final battle, since they obviously can't now), but it looks like we won't even get that...

I doubt that he can became Jōnin on Chunin exam, because by same case Naruto must have been Jōnin after Konoha crush. It have been told that Jōnin is chosen by other Jōnins.

Animators have shown in the battle almost all the teams. They would not have to stretch the arch on 30-50 series.

    • I can't believe it. The 1vs1 battles were the one and only thing I was still looking forward to in this arc. I mean I'm glad the main story comes back earlier than expected, but if only the filler arc would've focused more on the underlying subplots (like the anti-Gaara faction, those guys seemed like there could've been done so much more) and less on tedious, stretched episodes, boring character-"developements" and downright deterrent ...things, the aftertaste wouldn't be so sour. I now don't even know what was the point of this whole arc. Nothing came even remotely close to the canon chuunin exam. And it yet started pretty nicely. Oh well...

I know there are still some filler episodes to come, but I honestly don't expect much from them at this point. The arc went nowhere, and I doubt two or three more episodes will be able to fix it.

Maybe on episode #413, they'll give you tidbits of things still left unchecked. Things like how the 2nd Animal Path chick got killed, who in the Akatsuki nabbed Fū, how everyone became a Chunin besides Neji, who made Jounin. It's pretty obvious to me it'll probably either all happen in one swoop considering the timing, or the animators won't bother. Based on the episode titles, I'd say May 21st is the last filler episode.

I don't know how long it takes to make an episode, from writing, to animation, and recording, but I certainly don't think it's fast enough for poor reaction to have such an effect on changing the story.

I don't agree, ratings play a large part in continuing story lines. If the ratings are lower than what they expected, they'll just rewrite things and end it earlier than normal. It's how TV generally works, they don't just keep continuing something that's losing them money, so this is really just them "cutting their losses" as Jizo said and getting back to the story arc quicker than expected.

If they only wanted high ratings, they would never make filler arcs and just go on hiatus instead. But the reason they made this arc was to make money, so cutting the arc short doesn't make any sense as they would only loose out on making $$$.

Ratings are what gets them $$$. If nobody views an episode, they make nothing from it. So ratings are indeed important. But anyway, it's only speculation and we don't know the real reason why they're cutting it short.

I have mentioned a possible cause. They are all pre-planned 20 episodes.

    • Okay, if the finals did take place it would of been a 1 on 1 bracket tournament, which would take at-least 20 more episodes to see them all. And come on, everybody has seen the rookies ability's and everybody already knows that they all become chunin. So its not surprising to me that we're not gonna see the final as Studio Pierrot probably thought it would of been way to long and boring.

And i doubt they cut short the arc because if your gonna tell a story, Gaara's assassination is the climax of the story, not something that happens in the middle of the arc.

Hinata can't use her Protective Eight Trigrams technique to block it. Kiba and Akamaru can't rotate and push the away. I know sandstorms can be bad but what the Sand Siblings did minus Gaara as he is sand basically, the participants should've been able to handle. Oh no fireballs and giant water waves but a sandstorm we can't handle, yea pathetic. The beginning to middle of the arc was fine, but so far the ending is beginning to suck.

Personally, I think this arc started out decently, with a truckload of new and exciting characters and abilities (whereof sand seems to be the defining trait) but then gradually/swiftly lost any good ideas they might've had and ended up the way we talk about it now: disturbingly bad, I might be one of the few who openly enjoy fillers, but the way it's been since the episodes with Shira's backstory, then I'm pretty ok with it ending
