    Problem solved
    03:55, July 11, 2016

Earlier, I put in a block request for a user, and it went unanswered. The user has flamed in the forums so often that it's ridiculous, but he hasn't been blocked. Why he still isn't blocked is beyond me.

The forums have been getting a little rowdy as of late. The mods are doing pretty well with keeping up with it, but we can't block the repeated offenders.

There should be at least one sysop who's more forum active now, since Forum Operators aren't a thing anymore. If someone needs to be blocked, a sysop has to do it.

Personally, I don't care what form this takes. A sysop gets more forum-active, or someone gets promoted. I know that sysops have tools that aren't needed to moderate forums, but we don't have Custom Groups anymore, so we need someone who will be more involved.

If one of the Discussion Mods were to be promoted, I nominate @Sarutobii2. If the community agrees to promote a Discussion Mod to sysop, I'll go more in depth as to why.

Anyways my main point is that Discussion Mods can't block people. I'd be fine going to a sysop for it, but it doesn't seem to be working.

    • I'm not active in the foums beyond the scope of consensus trackboards so I have a few questions:

      • Why was the group "Forum Operators" removed?
        • Is it a case where wikia doesn't allow custom groups any more?
      • Is it possible that we can get the group reinstated?
      • Is it possible to grant the option to ban persons from the forums to some moderators without changing their flag? i.e. 2 moderators would have the ability to ban someone but they'd still be moderators.
      • Why sysops no answer requests?
        • Was there follow up with the request? i.e. DM a sysop that was already here?

    • I know exactly what you're talking about. That was the biggest concern we had when it came time to remove the Forum Operator position. But, rules are rules and we had to get rid of it.

When we wanted the Discussions Mods to have the option to ban, that was seen as giving us too much power. The problem with promoting a Discussions Mod to Sysop is that there's so many things a Sysop can do that aren't needed at all, in terms of forum moderation. It wouldn't make sense to do that.

We're stuck in a bind here. Like you said, either there's an increase in Discussions Mod capabilities or an existing Sysop becomes more active, both of which don't seem very likely to happen.

But in the event that we do promote a Forum-only sysop, I agree with you. If my word as the last Forum Operator still means anything, Saru deserves the job.

    • I have no problem if mods can't block. My problem is, sysops are not active enough and answer a request like a day or two later, bu then things may have already gotten more out of control. There are like 6 sysops (correct me if I'm wrong) and are you telling me that they are alm just that inactive. Sysops are the main people who should be active like are you serious? I wouldn't mind it if forum mods get the ban ability, as chat mods do. If we can't do that, than it would be good to have a forum mod promoted to sysop who will be very active on the forums to survelliamce and give blocks when needed.

      • Yes, wikia removed the groups we had.
      • I'm not sure, that could work but in my opinion it'd be easier to solve this in the wiki rather than going to wikia, it'd be simpler without going to them.
      • Due to the nature of groups, we can't just add a new group that has the option to ban. That'd probably be the best solution but as far as I know it can't be done.
      • I don't know why the sysops haven't responded to my request.

@Needle, exactly. But since we can't make the custom group, I threw the option of Discussion Mod promotion out there. It's one of the things we can do.

@Rachin, I agree. I don't mind not being able to block. But the ones who can block need to be more active, or we need to promote someone who will be more active with this. Basically, yeah I agree.

    • Added the sysop flag to our forum op and Saru for use in the forums, since Wikia seems intent on screwing over the communities that were here from the start, over and over.

    • Thanks @Dantman, and congrats @Needle and @Saru. Problem (hopefully) solved.
