Let's say Sasuke was able to advance his Amaterasu: Flame Wrapping Fire technique to the point where he could use it without Susanoo. He could cast it so that it hovers just millimeters above his skin. One misstep in controlling the flames would set him aflame... but would the flames really burn him? Or would the user be immune to their own fire?

    • When Sasuke used Blaze Release: Kagutsuchi in the form of a sword in his own hand, it didn't burn him at all. I think this is as much to say.

    • Cool, thanks, Raven.

    • This might only be a Sasuke thing tho. I mean Sasuke can manipulate amaterasu as he desires thanks to his right eye. So it makes sense that he can manipulate it in such way that he doesn`t injure himself even on contact. On the other hand, if Itachi were to shoot amaterasu on a part of his own body, i doubt he wouldn`t be affected.

I agree. We've seen a similar thing with Kakashi/Obito. Even though Kamui can hurt people, Obito could simply negate its effect. Given that Kakashi was in fact teleported by Obito, this implies the reverse is not true.

So yea, i'd say that the control version of the eye (e.g. Obito's eye controls Kamui, Kakashi's projects it. Amaterasu projects all-burning flame, Kagutsuchi controls it) can manipulate it in such a way that the user is not hurt by their own power.

    • It was shown by both Itachi and Sasuke that they could stop Amaterasu.

She does get hurt by her corrosive gas.
